On March 23, we hosted our first Downtown Meeting of the year. We were excited to see so many familiar faces in the crowd, and even more excited to see so many new faces. Hosted by The Local, we were able to bring together our community to discuss parking, safety, and our vision for 2016.
Were you not able to make the meeting? Don't worry--here's a quick recap of what happened.
Welcome Alice Clark!
Our new director is Alice Clark. Alice was the Executive Director of the Pickford Film Center for 12 years before stepping down to pursue her love of baking (yes, she's the Alice of Alice's Pies). She has now taken the reins of the Partnership, and is excited to be back in the nonprofit world. Her goals for 2016 are to improve safety through increased foot traffic and activity through our events, reducing the number of vacancies downtown, providing more resources for businesses and organizations, and much more.
Safety with Bellingham Police Department
BPD officers stopped by to answer a few questions. One question that really stood out was "Who do I call for a non-threatening emergency?" Their answer was 911, as they will record and track it. The officers also discussed a presentation, which can be found here.
Downtown Parking Survey
Last December we conducted a survey with business owners and stakeholders about the parking situation downtown. We created an infographic to highlight our findings, and the most interesting graphic we created was overlaying Bellis Fair Mall over the downtown core, and comparing the distance people are willing to walk at the mall as opposed to downtown. In addition to parking solutions, we are working with the City to install more bike racks downtown to support alternative modes of transportation.
We Are All Downtown Bellingham Spring Campaign
We launched our We Are All Downtown Bellingham Spring Campaign at the meeting. This campaign is a matching funds campaign, where generous funders will match every donation that's made. Our first matching funder is Daylight Properties, and our goal is to reach $50,000 by the end of April. Supporters can either make a one time donation, or a recurring donation to the Partnership on our website.
Our next meeting is in June, so make sure you're on our newsletter to be the first to know the date and time!
