Evan Hansen is a high school student who always feels like he’s on the outside looking in. He finally gets what so many of us are searching for — the chance to finally fit in. What follows is a poignant, funny, and powerful musical about how even though it can be hard, we can find each other — and ourselves — along the way.

The #ShopSmall efforts to support local, small businesses in Whatcom County are important–and stressful. 

I’m not going to sugarcoat it–it’s tough being a small business owner and competing with major retailers and discounts each holiday season. A lot of us want to reward loyal customers with a jaw-dropping discount, but we can’t afford to do that without cutting into already tight profits. 

Unlike #BlackFriday, which happens the day after Thanksgiving and directs attention and profits to the “big box” stores, Small Business Saturday on November 30 is an initiative to support the “mom and pop” stores you love. The stores that make your community and downtown unique. 

Shopping “small” can mean dining out this weekend at an independent restaurant, buying a gift (or gift card) at an indie shop downtown, or buying online services and products from a local, small business.

STOMP, the international percussion sensation, comes to Bellingham, Washington for one performance only, at Mount Baker Theatre on Monday, January 13. From its beginnings as a street performance in the U.K., STOMP has grown into an international sensation over the past 30 years, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 26 million people.

Sustainable Connections (SC) is thrilled to announce new positions and a new leadership team. These strategic changes will strengthen the organization’s capacity to fulfill its new mission to build community, strengthen food systems, catalyze climate solutions, and expand access to housing in Northwest Washington.

It may be hard to imagine how leveraging business tax credits through a local nonprofit organization could lead to an inspirational joy that touches people’s hearts, but that’s exactly what happened when Mount Baker Care Center & Summit Place Assisted Living decided to work with the Downtown Bellingham Partnership. Jenny Hagemann was there to watch it happen and explain how local businesses can be a part of it.

Sleigh what? The critically acclaimed live stage show, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, returns this fall for its tenth year on the road entertaining families across North America. The national tour, featuring the “most famous reindeer of all” and his friends from the longest running and highest rated holiday television special, will soar into Bellingham, Washington at Mount Baker Theatre on December 7 with two showtimes at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Audiences are invited to help Santa save Christmas with the help of Rudolph and the holly jolly cast of characters including Hermey the Elf, Yukon Cornelius, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, and more.
