2024 “Neighborly” Grants Fund 36 Projects with $173,000 Across County

With this year’s grants totaling nearly $173,000 for more than 30 organizations, the Community Foundation’s investment tops half a million dollars since Project Neighborly was established in 2016. Grants have ranged from $360 to $5000, with projects coming from all corners of the county and all manner of groups, from neighborhood associations and faith organizations, to schools, local government and tribes, a range of arts, environmental and social service nonprofits and Western Washington University.

Northwest Youth Services Announces Their Love Warriors Movement

Northwest Youth Services is excited to announce the launch of their Love Warriors Movement. A Movement to end youth and young adult homelessness in Skagit and Whatcom Counties.

The term Love Warrior was coined by Dr. Cornel West. “Love Warriors are those who have decided to cut radically against the grain and attempt to engage in forms of care and concern for others. They have a hypersensitivity to the suffering of others. They are willing to give oneself, to emptying oneself, to give whatever gifts one has cultivated to make the world a better place.”

Bellingham Public Library presents a full line-up of programs and events in June 2024. Highlights for the month include the kick-off of Summer Reading for adults and children on June 1, Library Card Night with the Bellingham Bells on June 20, and recognition of Pride Month with special lists of recommended library materials.

Olympic Pipe Line Tragedy - 25 Years Later

On June 10, 1999, the Olympic pipeline ruptured and spilled nearly 250,000 gallons of gasoline into Whatcom Creek which ignited and killed two boys and a young man in Bellingham, WA

Headliner Bands Announced for Downtown Sounds 20th Anniversary Concert Season

The Downtown Bellingham Partnership welcomes music lovers to five free Wednesday evening concerts July 10 – August 7, 2024, featuring headlining acts from New Orleans and Brooklyn funk and soul scenes and the Pacific Northwest, to celebrate the 20th-anniversary season of Downtown Sounds. The concert series transforms the Arts District intersection of Bay, Holly, and Prospect Streets into a stage, beer garden, food truck, and family activity zone for residents and tourists to experience unforgettable evenings of live music, food, and fun. In anticipation of record-setting crowds, two additional blocks will be closed from traffic to expand all areas of the event and allow for additional entry points.
