The Weir is a hauntingly evocative play that starts with a group of locals gathering on a windy night in a pub in a small Irish town. A pretty young woman, who has just moved down from Dublin into the local “haunted” house, joins the gathering and shakes up the usual exchange of banter and blarney. The gents are all taken with the newcomer, and each begins to show off, telling his own story of spooky local goings on. The night takes a turn, however, when the young woman tells her own story. Written by award-winning playwright Conor McPherson, The Weir won the UK’s top theatrical prize for Best New Drama.
