Facing Christmas 3,000 miles from his children, NYPD Detective John McClane (Willis) flies to Los Angeles bearing presents and hopes of reconciliation. While crashing the office party of his estranged wife Holly Gennero (Bedelia), McClane quickly becomes the only hope for a small group of hostages trapped in a high-rise building when it is seized by German terrorists.
