Susan Farrington Collage: Meloy Gallery June Featured Artist

  • Meloy Gallery 301 West Holly Street Lower Level Bellingham, WA, 98225 United States (map)

For the month of June Susan Farrington’s collage is featured at Meloy Gallery by appointment at 360-201-9038 or every Friday, Saturday, & Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Susan has been an artist for as long as she can remember. As a child she was encouraged by her parents to explore a wide variety of ways to be creative, taking classes in decoupage, quilting, ceramics, woodworking, papier-maché, sewing, drawing, and painting to name a few. These childhood experiences form the foundation of her love for working with mixed media.

She studied at Massachusetts College of Art and, after graduating, worked in the travel industry, living in Europe, South America and the Caribbean; soaking up foreign cultures and starting her enormous postcard collection.  Her mixed media style has developed over the years with an emphasis on a personal approach that is playful and whimsical. She creates her collages using an array of media, often combining fabric, paint, vintage ephemera, ink, and found items to create lively, multi-layered work. She is especially interested in conveying the narrative of her art in a  fun, clear way.

An illustrator since the early Jurassic period, Susan has created art for hundreds of magazines and newspapers. Her diverse client list includes, Target, Hallmark, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, UNICEF, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and many more. She was commissioned by the MTA NY Arts for Transit and Design to create a large poster which was on display for a year and     seen by billions of people, it won the silver prize for advertising at The Society of Illustrators in NY. Susan's work has been recognized in American Illustration, Communication Arts, Print, and 3 x3. Her first children's book 'What I Love About You' was  published by Balzer+Bray/HarperCollins.
