Tintype Photography Sessions
Saturday, March 23, 2024 and Sunday, March 24, 2024
10 am – 5 pm both days (30-minute appointments)
Syre Education Center

The Whatcom Museum is hosting Seattle-based tintype photographer Kyle McMillin of Red Room Tintype on March 23 and 24. A tintype is an old photography style dating back to the 1850s – predating film – where an image is created on a thin sheet of metal. As home to more than 200,000 archival images of Whatcom County and the PNW, we’re excited to bring this photographic art style to Bellingham. We’ll be offering a limited number of 30-minute sessions with Kyle each day. And, in honor of our archival photography exhibition The Pet Show, you are also invited to bring your pet to join you in the photo. The Pet Show celebrates the pets of Whatcom County (and their humans), with the oldest images from the late 1800s. Commemorate your favorite pet and reserve your session today!

What you’ll receive:

One (1) 4”x5” tintype, which will be ready for pick-up at the Whatcom Museum in early April. You will be notified by email when your photograph is ready to be collected. Tintypes take time to produce and will not be available to take with you after your session.

Each reservation is for one 30-minute session and up to two takes, from which you will select one tintype image to be produced. Each image can include up to 4 people max (without pets) OR 3 people and 1 pet. (Please note: 1-2 people OR 1 person + 1 pet will produce the optimal tintype image, as these are small images similar to headshots.)

Cost: $115
